Micah’s 1st Birthday

Micah’s 1st Birthday

November 6, 2012 at 6:24pm

We are so fortunate to have such wonderful family and friends who made Micah’s 1st birthday so wonderful.

The most important part of my son’s 1st birthday was his baby dedication.  Thank you Joey Kuchler and Tracy Legendre Kuchler!  For those of you who couldn’t be there, here is what happened:

Joey read a parents’ job description (similar to what is says here:http://www.squidoo.com/parents-job

He talked about what the Bible says about parenting.

  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. – Duet 6:4-7
  • Parents, don’t come down too hard on your children or you’ll crush their spirits. – Col 3:21

We committed to:

  • raise Micah in an atmosphere of unconditional love and discipline
  • to live in a way that we actively live out Jesus’ teachings
  • teach Micah to love and serve God all his days

Joey shared he believes in the cloud of witnesses, and that my dad is sharing in these moments with us.  So special.  I miss my dad so much and he would be so wonderful with Micah.

Joey shared stories of raising Ian and I in church as our youth pastor.  Aside from my parents, he and Tracy are really responsible for some of the most formative years of our lives.  Praise God!

Then he said this prayer for Micah.

‘Lord we thank you so much for your presence here, we thank you for your sovereignty and to bring us together as family and friends.  You have a purpose for each of us.  We all play a part in Micah’s life.  We ask your Holy Spirit to give us even more of an infilling as we need your strength and wisdom.  Bless Micah’s mind that he would think the way you think, the way his parents think and that he would have his own creative thoughts as well.

Bless his eyes that he would see the right path, that he would see people the way that you see them and spread love to them.

Bless his mouth to speak encouraging love to everyone he comes into contact with.

Bless his hands to be about the good work that you have planned for him.

Bless his feet to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with his God.

Bless this child, this family, this home, his friends and everything you have laid out for him.  Amen.’

We went inside to enjoy a wonderful spread of food prepared by A Royal Affair Cafe, my friend Lila Shirley’s cafe.  She did such a great job!! Thank you!

Ian and Sarah sang kids songs to the babies.  They had a great time!  They kept going up to help Ian play the guitar!  And the older kids could do all the hand motions.  Ian made me sing too, even though I’m not sure anyone but Micah really wants to hear me sing.

We sang happy birthday and let Micah dig into his fruit tart.  I served his actual birthday cake to everyone.  It was so cute!  Costco modified their cake to look like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

After that we opened gifts.  There were SO many gifts! You all are so generous!

Thank you mom for letting us use your home!  You are the hostess with the mostest!

Thank you Sarah Schlott for helping me decorate, singing with Ian, and being my videographer!

Thank you Marissa Smith for helping craft all the caterpillars and goodies, and for taking such great care of Micah!

Thank you John Schlott for taking such awesome photos of the entire day!

Thank you for all the friends that came to share in the fun!

We really missed everyone who couldn’t be there!  You know who you are :0)

Here is my prayer for Micah:

Father God I thank you for today.  I thank you for our son.  I thank you for your Son.  I praise your Holy name.  You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Thank you for washing us white as snow.  Thank you for being sovereign, for finishing the good works you start.  Thank you that the word you send out does not come back unaccomplished but complete.

I lift Micah up to you.  He is yours.  We will do our best to raise him well, in a way that makes you proud.  Please give us your patience and compassion for his path of learning, his personality.  Please fill us with with the right words to say to encourage him in the ways he should go, and give us the wisdom of when to correct sternly and gently.  Please make us great examples to him, as parents earnestly trying to follow in your ways.  Please bless our health so he has us around a long time as his helpmates and parents.

Mold him into a mighty man of faith.  May he be stamped with your Seal.  Please him like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm.  Give him a spirit of wisdom and revelation so he knows you better every day.  I pray the eyes of his heart are enlighted so he knows the hope you give us, and the riches of his inheritance in the saints, and the power you have for us who believe.  I pray you continue to make yourself known to him so he is filled with your abundant love.

I pray that you inspire him to share your truths with others in a loving way.  Show him to put his trust in you, and count his blessings in heaven, not on earth.  Root him deeply with your confidence and allow him to boast only on what You accomplish by using him.

Keep him humble.  Surround him with lifelong friendships based on mutual respect and love.  Prepare his heart for the plans You have for him.

Bless Micah’s health, Lord.  Help him be obedient to us so his days are long and healthy.

Bless our family and friends Lord as well.  May anyone who agrees with this prayer find favor in your eyes.  Bless them ten-fold.  Inspire them to keep Micah and our family in their prayers as well.

We love you.  Amen.
